As he posed for photos alongside the other coaches at the iconic Colosseum in Rome on Tuesday, Gatland found himself in an unfamiliar and somewhat humbling position: that of the underdog.

For the first time in many years, Wales is widely predicted to finish at the bottom of the Six Nations standings in 2025, having endured a winless campaign the previous year that saw them claim the dreaded wooden spoon.
